Our Story

The Novapetal Flower Shop window on East 72nd Street in New York, filled with flowers behind the glass

Floral Artistry, Every Day.

Novapetal began with a question: why should exceptional floral design be reserved for weddings and events?

In 2020, founder and creative director Olga Sheppard set out to answer it. She wanted the artistry of European floristry, movement, proportion, unexpected flowers, to arrive on an ordinary Tuesday, not only in a ballroom.

In 2021, that idea became Novapetal.

Today, Novapetal designs from two studios: Phoenix, where it began, and New York’s Upper East Side.

Phoenix was the first. New York is the second. It is not the last.

What Happens on 72nd Street

Every arrangement that leaves our Upper East Side studio is designed by hand, by a florist, in the studio.

There is no distant production line and no one assembling your order somewhere else. The flowers you order from Novapetal New York are designed here, on 72nd Street.

We photograph the finished arrangement before it leaves, so you can see what you sent.

It travels in our own branded box, presented the way it was designed to arrive.

Order by 3 PM Eastern and it can go out the same day across Manhattan and New York City.

The Flowers

Our work begins with what comes into the studio.

What comes in first: peonies, still wrapped.

We buy from American growers and private farms, and from growers in Holland, Japan, Ecuador and Kenya, giving our designers access to garden roses, orchids, anthurium, protea, ranunculus, anemones, peonies and unusual varieties beyond what is locally in season.

But rarity alone does not make good floral design. The stem still has to belong in the composition.

We choose flowers for what they let a designer do: movement, color, scale, texture and, now and then, surprise.

European Eye. American Generosity.

European floristry shapes how we think about proportion, movement, texture and the natural character of a flower.

American flower culture brings something we value just as much: generosity, warmth and the belief that sending flowers should be easy.

Novapetal brings the two together.

We design original collections, but we do not work to a rigid template. Flowers are natural materials; no two stems move alike.

That is why no two Novapetal arrangements are exactly the same.

The Hands Behind the Flowers

Novapetal is a young company. The hands are not.

Our New York team brings more than sixty-five years of combined experience across European and American floral traditions, from a senior designer approaching three decades at the bench to florists bringing a new generation of perspective to the studio.

We hire floral artists, not assemblers. It matters because your arrangement is made by a person, not produced on a line.

Chosen for Rooms That Notice

Our florals have been chosen for work with Chanel, Dior, Bvlgari, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and Waldorf Astoria New York.

Those names matter to us because of what they represent: trust in the work.

But the same hands, the same bench and the same standard go into one arrangement traveling a few blocks up the street.

That is the point.

The everyday work is where that gets tested, and it is where the rating comes from: 4.9 out of 5 on Google across 100+ reviews, left by people who were sending flowers to one address on one afternoon. Read what they wrote.

Meet the Founders

Olga Sheppard, Founder & Creative Director

Olga leads the creative vision of Novapetal, its floral language, its collections and the way the brand continues to evolve. Her original idea remains the standard behind the work today:

I wanted floral art to exist beyond weddings and events — to become something people could experience every day.

— Olga Sheppard, Founder & Creative Director

Anthony Sheppard, Co-Founder

Anthony built the operational and technological side around that vision, the systems that have allowed Novapetal to grow across two cities without losing the personal experience and creative standards of an independent studio.

Together, Olga and Anthony remain closely involved in the company they started.

Where It Began

Where it started, 2021.

Novapetal started in 2021 in a garage in Phoenix, with a Coca-Cola cooler for cold storage and two people doing nearly all of it: taking the orders, designing the flowers, making the deliveries and photographing what they created.

In 2023, Novapetal was recognized by Yelp and Entrepreneur as part of America’s Favorite Mom & Pop Shops®, at a time when the company still had no shop of its own.

The first dedicated studio opened in Phoenix the following year.

Then came New York.

In 2025, Novapetal opened at 355 E 72nd Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. A year later, the studio is designing for New York every day.

By then, what had begun with two people had become a team of floral artists working across two cities.

And somewhere inside that story is our family, too. Our son has grown up around the studio, the flowers and the people who make them, a reminder that Novapetal has never felt separate from the life we were building alongside it.

In 2026, Novapetal turns five.

A garage became a studio.
Two founders became a team.
One city became two.

The idea has not changed.
