Cosmopolitan featured Novapetal cofounder Anthony Sheppard in “Meet the Secret Heroes of Valentine’s Day,” published 13 February 2026 — a look at the florists, bakers and restaurant teams who put in the extra work behind the busiest gifting day of the year.
Asked how the shop prepares for 14 February, he described a two-month runway: team meetings, ordering flowers well ahead of time, analyzing past data, hiring and training extra hands, and planning the logistics that get hundreds of arrangements delivered on time across Manhattan.
“What part of the work would surprise people? How intense the behind-the-scenes work really is,” he told the magazine. During the holiday the entire team operates at 15× capacity — inspecting every stem that arrives, and re-sourcing on the spot rather than sending out anything that falls short.

Novapetal was named to America’s Favorite Mom & Pop Shops® 2023, the first annual list Entrepreneur produced with Yelp: 150 independently owned businesses across ten categories. It ran as the cover feature of the July/August 2023 issue, on newsstands 18 July 2023.
Novapetal is number 2 among the fifteen shops in the shopping category, recognized for its European-style arrangements at our Phoenix flagship.
The magazine lists us as “Novalpetal | Flower Lab” — a misspelling of Novapetal Flower Lab, our Phoenix studio.
